MICHAEL GARRON HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

Charlie & Sprocket was honored to be chosen by the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation (MGHF) for their Laughter is the Best Medicine, Canada’s premier fundraising comedy, for their virtual home edition of Laughter is the Best Medicine Gala.  The event has been a critical source of funding for the hospital since 2012, so C&S wanted to ensure the evening was a brilliant success.

The Covid-19 pandemic underscored the importance of effective, community based healthcare that delivered truly life-saving care.  The success of the At-Home Laughter is the Best Medicine event would ensure Michael Garron Hospital meet the evolving health challenges of the community by being able to invest in the hospital’s most urgent needs.

The evening was a tremendous success raising $8.3 million including three transformational gifts announced that evening, which enabled MGH to provide high-quality healthcare close to home for everyone who lives in Toronto’s east end.

The night kicked off with the home delivery of gourmet dinners to more than +1,600 guests followed with virtual experiential experiences before a fun-filled evening of entertainment with Will Arnett, Steve Martin, Mike Birbiglia and Grammy-winning Canadian singing sensation Alessia Cara.

Mitze Mourinho, President of MGHF, felt it was more important than ever to continue the tradition of making others laugh.  “The feedback for the at-home event has been absolutely phenomenal.  We’ve sold out!”.

As the event’s experiential designer and producer, the Charlie & Sprocket team led the program and event management + coordination for all deliverables including speaker management, integration of the fundraising platforms, sponsor’ engagement + virtual activations, experiential enhancements, talent management and show calling.
